Topic: Passport renewal - In US or in India - What's best?

So does your son's passport not have your US address anywhere in the entire passport?

Answering an earlier question by someone as to why i want to change the address --- Well, I thought the passport would be a piece of evidence of my US address if I need to produce 'proof od residence' somewhere. Only my DL has the US address. Will the absence of US address not create a problem for me later on?

Topic: Employer refusing to give health insurance after GC; is it legal?

What has labor cert got to do with health insurance...??

answering someone's earlier post regarding "although it may seem unfair, it is perfectly legal"...please read the entire paragraph...I have copied and pasted from that site...
"Although it might not sound fair, it is perfectly legal. Employers are allowed to determine which classes of employees, if any, are offered a health plan. A manufacturing plant, for instance, can choose to offer a health plan to executive employees or managers and not to shop floor workers. However, all of the employees in the designated class must be offered the health plan; the employer cannot offer the health plan only to select employees in that designated class.

If employer pays health insurance for all salaried full time employees, they cannot refuse any single employee in that category...my employer pays for all salaried F/T employees and i am a salaried F/T employee as well...so they HAVE TO pay for me ...anyways, my case has been resolved...i have narrated my conversations with them in my earlier post...

Topic: Employer refusing to give health insurance after GC; is it legal?

Thank you all for your views and opinions. i just wanted to clear one point...the company is not offering family coverage to me or my spouse. My spouse is getiing only single coverage from employer and spouse pays the difference which is a large sum as my employer size is small and insurance carriers are not ready to give good deals. Employer wanted me to enter that family plan where they would continue to pay only single coverage for spouse and we had to pay for myself and my child from my pocket. Inshort the employer wanted to completely wipe out my health benefits and make me pay from my pocket. i know the economy is down and health insuance is not a mandatory benefit but my question is; is it legal for my employer to pay for the health insurance of all employees except mine just becoz my spouse is employed there too and they are paying her single coverage (not family coverage as many of you have thought)? Why do i have to pay from my pocket for my health insurance...they were trying to make it a policy (could not produce one when asked)...anyways, I asked them directly " where is the employer contribution for my coverage?" and they had NO answer...so my insurance continues as it is....I know it is not related to GC, but it might help people who after getting GC have their employer discriminate against them just because they have paid for their GC (well, the GC is not free of cost to me..if I leave before 3 years, i have to pay them back...so no favors there and even for my h1 the same 3 year bond)...thanks all for your help.

Topic: Employer refusing to give health insurance after GC; is it legal?

I got my GC in June 2008 and want to continue at my employer for some more time. My employer is refusing to give me health coverage because i am eligible to be covered under my spouse's family (spouse and son) plan. i do not want to go to family coverage. employer is saying that it is a policy now (do not have the policy written up as yet) since spouse is with same employer and they provide single coverage for my spouse. they want me to enter family coverage so that they can save that money. can they force me to sign the waiver form or it can be my choice? Is it legal if an employer refuses to give health coverage (all salaried employees get it; i am also salaried) to an employee just because spouse is employed there too? Can they force me to give up my health coverage through a policy? Should I sign the form without reading the policy? Please help.

Topic: Problem in renewing DL in Alabama after getting green card

Just wanted to post for those who might have this situation...I called the DMV yesterday and they said that since I have got the PR card, my status has changed and they need to update their records. So i need to go to DMV where I had given my driving test and show them my existing DL + PR card and SSN card...Not a big deal!!

Topic: Problem in renewing DL in Alabama after getting green card

My DL expires this month and I went to the DMV office to renew it. She said there is a DSP hold on it and i need to take all my papers related to my immigration status to the office where I gave my driving test and they will issue the DL. It seems their system is recognizing me as a foreign national. The first time i got my DL in 2005 from this DMV office itself when I was on H1 visa.Has anyone had this experience?
