Topic: Stop the Bailouts!!
Foampile -
I agree with your sentiments. But, at this time we have no choice to swallow our ideological differences for the greater good. Banks do provide credit which is the grease of the economy. Many legitimate businesses will fail due to lack of access to credit.
Armageddon is a lose-lose situation.
But, we need to make sure that Wall St. learns its lessons and does not have the incentive to repeat them. |
Topic: Stop the Bailouts!!
Thanks to all who signed the petition.
It is beginning to look like Paulson and his fascist buddies are losing the battle. Please keep up the pressure on your representatives. I do understand that we need a bail-out plan but not the one this blood sucking ex-CEO of GS is proposing.
We need a plan which has -
1. Oversight and complete Transparency - We need to look at each and every transaction which gets done via this RTC-type facility.
2. Reduction in the absurd CEO compensation packages of the bailed-out institutions.
3. Contingency equity stake for the tax-payers, so that we have a share of the upside, if any. If this plan does not work out, existing shareholder equity should be diluted.
4. Bankruptcy cram-downs. Folks who are not able to afford their homes under normal conditions (lots can only afford teaser rates) should be forced to declare bankruptcy.
We need to make sure that we have regulations in place so that this will never occur again.
Keep up the good fight. Contact your representatives today! |

yo! forum police!
Please feel to ignore the thread if you deem it fit. I have seen too many nonsensical threads out here to take this seriously.
I do apologize for posting it in multiple forums. But I am just trying to get maximum attention to the real problems which this country is facing, and this should affect the decision of whether you want your GC. |
Topic: Stop the Bailouts!!
[1] Merrill has financed 75% (not 85% if I remember right, hence 22c/4 = 5.5c), but in any case, 5.5c is the value IF the toxicity is worth ZERO cents. Lone Star is a distressed debt expert, it bought the securities for the 'long term' and make a killing on the way up. The ZERO cent Merrill debt is academic, yes if Mars comes and hits the Earth, it will be valued @ ZERO.
How is it worth anything if it is worth zero? All the players in the market were supposedly experts. Look at where that got us. How many people do you think are going to pay their Option ARMs when the rate resets? ZERO
[2] Financial Institutions colluding to inflate the ask? This is not the airlines industry where 4-5 CEOs call each other to set prices on airline seats.
I see that you still underestimate the greed and evil of Wall Street.
[3] What was wrong in PIMCO making money on their bet that the govt would eventually back agency debt? Bulls make money, Bears make money, it is the Pigs (with lipstick) that get butchered :-)
All the holders of debt should have taken a haircut. They were private enterprises with an implicit govt guarantee. Dont you see the moral hazard in this? The only reason the debt was made whole was because China and Russia were the biggest holders. The terrorists have won and they did not need to fire a single shot. We are essentially under the control of foreign govts begging them to help subsidize our lifestyle.
Capitalism means that you get rewarded as well as punished for your risk. These guys want to get rewarded but not punished. And it seems that you are OK with this.
At the very least, the shareholders should be diluted and senior debt holders should take a haircut. Hank Paulson is going to make sure that this is not going to happen. This is his parting gift to his banking buddies. |

As far as a POSITIVE RETURN, dude, please pass on some of what you are smoking.
I didn't see this in all the flurry. I stick to Afghani Charas - the best that money can buy :-)
In that case, I suggest you order in a 10 year supply. You are going to need it when you work till September just to pay off your taxes.
Also, keep watching CNBC and keep shopping. |

All I have to say is -
The National Australia Bank (NAB) took a 90% writedown on its 550 million (AUD) in holdings of US mortgage debt. |
Topic: Stop the Bailouts!!
Merrill sold the toxic stuff to Lone Star @ 22c/$; couple of months earlier CIT sold its toxicity to Lone Star in Texas @ 65c/$ - different vintage, different toxicity.
With Merrill financing 85% of that. Read the fine print. So essentially, it comes down to 5C on the dollar. Lone Star would have taken a hit only if the value of the securities fall below 5c.
Your allegation of "banks dumping toxicity at above market prices to the government" does not hold water, as the plan entails a **reverse auction** so there will be fierce competition to put toxicity to the government at the 'lowest' clearing price. .
What is to prevent all the financial institutions to collude and bid the prices higher?
This securities portfolio, if managed by a PIMCO or equivalent fixed-income manager, will guarantee a POSITIVE RETURN for the government, as the real-estate market stabilizes and recovers
PIMPCO is the biggest bottom feeder out there. They essentially made a bet that FNM/FRE bonds will be made whole by the govt. and pocketed a cool $1.2 Bn.
So, these guys make money on the way down and on the way up. Nice!!
As far as a POSITIVE RETURN, dude, please pass on some of what you are smoking. The market has spoken. This is crap! Total Utter Crap!! Why wouldnt anyone buy Lehman for $4/ share. Coz they opened their books and found nothing but unadulterated bullcrap. |

" Also, who is the author of this petition?"
- Karl Denninger
" Tell me without hysteria why this country is FCUKED"
- You are already running a huge current account deficit. This plan will add another trillion to that deficit. We are dependent on the kindness of strangers to run this country at this point. This will lead to hyperinflation. The US "AAA" rating will come into danger. Why would foreigners keep pouring money into a failed republic. They will start dumping dollars. And when that happens, the Sh!t really hits the fan. |
Topic: Stop the Bailouts!!
Also, the Fed is not a government entity.
It is a private cartel of bankers. They are not looking for you. Hank Paulson was a former CEO of Goldman Sachs. He will make millions/billions out of this by taking care of his banking buddies.
Goldman Sachs controls this country. Make no mistake about this. |
Topic: Stop the Bailouts!!
ShangriLa, what you say is wallstreet propaganda, that's all. Gotta scare the shit out of you to get your money.
Exactly!!!
How can they design a plan of such magnitude over a weekend???!!!!?? Heck, I could not even complete my measly homework over a weekend.
These scare tactics worked with the Iraq war. Please do not let it work this time around.
WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Contact your representatives NOW!!
All this struggle for your GC will come to nought if this plan goes through. The US will be a zombie third world country.
Please expand your horizons and look beyond mainstream media which is controlled by corporations. Always look for who is behind the news for the true story. |
