Topic: Is it risky to travel home and have a friend FEDEX the EAD (OPT) card to you?
u have got me wrong. in case u leave for ur home country..and were approved when in your home country... the days that you were in your home country after your opt is being approved count towards unemployment... not before approval... |
Topic: Is it risky to travel home and have a friend FEDEX the EAD (OPT) card to you?
Yes it is risky..... First of all if you stay 1-60 days in your home country during your first 12 months of OPT that would be counted under 60 days of unemployment. Please make a note of it in your plans
they do count towards 90 days of unemployment in total 29 month OPT
BEWARE... BEWARE...... If you need more information USCIS WEBSITE or Call your DSO/Office of international students officer/ advisor . they would definitely help you
and also get your I-20 signed by school officer too |
Topic: Check not cashed?!
hello INDIAMAN...
getting your check encashed could take upto 15 days. wait until you receive your receipt. that is all what you can do. if you are still worried.. contact your DSO(School) for more details. or you can also contact the USCIS call center may be after 4 weeks of your application reaching them. I received my receipt after 45 days...
may be they can help you |
Topic: Urgent OPT Questions
Renuka,
If your/ your friend's school is ok with the field of work you /he does... then there should be no problem as such. this can be found when DSO/ Office of international students approves your OPT I-20 for 17 month opt Extension.
and it varies from school to school and DSO to DSO .. as far as USCIS is concerned... it is all upto their disgression. but if USCIS goes by your DSO 's opinion then that should be great |
Topic: Urgent OPT Questions
Hello buddy,
dont get panicked.
For your first question- well many do complete their 12 month OPT in first 14 months of graduation.
2)make sure that you are within 60 days of your graduation date. Thats a best option- and maintain proper status by reporting to your school about employment status atleast once in every 3 months.
3) now a days the start date doesnot matter as you have 29 months of OPT . With the current regulations for OPT and Time lines for H1b( as many students who go for OPT also go for H1b) permit a candidate to have OPT start date at any time. and in your case have it started by 20th october... start it by oct 1 but it should be before oct 21st.... so
to be eligible for opt 17 month you should never be unemployed for more than 60 days after your 12 month opt starts. If you are leaving US to your home country or any other country other than US during your OPT it counts as unemployment days. so make sure.. you dont loose your status . |
