Topic: 485 RFE, Lot of documents needed !!
Congratulations Smog! I'm so glad you're out of this mess : ) Now go get 'unlocked' SSN cards. And enjoy the summer!
And don't forget to update status of your case on trackitt to make it even brighter ;-) |
Topic: 485 RFE, Lot of documents needed !!
nayymah and all others,
what is a "return transcript" how is that different from the usual copy of any tax return?
do i have to request them differently that i request the tax returns when dialing the 1800 number?
See first several pages of this thread - you will find lots of info on tax transcripts. |

Smog, did you hear anything from USCIS yet? Or at least a LUD? |
Topic: 485 RFE, Lot of documents needed !!
Congratulations Russianninja, Noypiako, mkim!
Having the approval now, I started realizing how big a part of my life that wait was. I didn't really _think_ about GC all the time, but it was always somewere in the background, thinking about any big personal change and realizing I'm not "permanent" here, researching FBI namecheck mess, preparing documents for WOM. I'm really glad it's over : ))
To the rest of waiting here - it should be ready in ~2 weeks after RFE response. You will get it and in a couple of years most of us will become hopelessly outdated in the immigration matters : )))
BTW - both I-140 and I-485 were approved when I did NOT check status for several days. That tells me that anxiety delays approvals. |
Topic: I-485 filed, leaving country temporarily- biometrics
Actually, you can even send that letter yourself. First time my lawyer sent the letter, because I was also out of country. But then my lawyer advised me to send letters myself, and I have sent 2 more of them on behalf of my wife.
The format is simple
Date
USCIS [Your ASC Office]
[ASC Office Address]
Re: [Name] [Case #]
Dear Sir/Madam:
Please, be advised that Mrs. [your wife's name] is out of the country on vacation. This individual is currently scheduled for a biometrics appointment in support of her Form I-485, Application to [app name], on [date time] at your Application Support Center. It is kindly requested that she is rescheduled for another biometrics interview at a later time. She will return to U.S. on [date].
Thank you for your prompt attention in this matter. Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the undersigned.
Sincerely,

Topic: I-485 filed, leaving country temporarily- biometrics
I had the same situation in 2006 - my wife was out of the country for 3 months right after filing I-485. Biometrics appointment was scheduled in 2.5 weeks after filing I-485. The answer is simple - when you receive biometrics notice, ask your lawyer (whose name appears on your wife's G-28) to send them (ASC - application support center) a letter advising that she is out of country on a vacation and asking to reschedule - this will ensure that her case cannot be considered as abandoned. On that letter you can mention the date when she returns, but in my experience USCIS ignores any dates you provide to them. You should also talk to the receptionist in the ASC on your scheduled biometrics date and make sure your wife's name is not listed. |
Topic: 485 RFE, Lot of documents needed !!
Yesterday, I received emails that cards have been mailed ("Approval notice sent"), it took them 2 business days to print the plastic. Today, I received the "Welcome" notice in the mail, which is a usual "I-797C, Notice Of Action", which welcomes new permanent resident and advises that I must carry the plastic with me at all times (will have to talk to lawyer about that strange requirement).
It's interesting that they added middle initial (corresponsing to the father's name mentioned in any full name in Russia) to names on all three notices, even though we did not include middle names in I-485 application. I would really like to get rid of that middle initial... it's not on my driver's license and I did not use it for any IRS filings before. |

Thanks for the all the replies and congratulations : )
Indeed, given how many of these RFE's come right now, my lawyer was mostly interested in impressing the USCIS officer with the amount and overall quality of paper, without any expectation that officer would read through it. So, don't worry too much about RFE - just do your best to provide a great reply regardless of whether USCIS will actually read it.
I asked my lawyer (as a kind of joke) if she had to ship _boxes_ to USCIS now. She replied that yes, they sometimes had to ship boxes of documents, especially in cases of RFE for the "outstanding ability" applicants. USCIS would demand copies of all the publications (sometimes hundreds of publications) that were ever published by that applicant. Imagine _that_ RFE response : )
The lawyer mentioned that I was one of the fastest in providing all requested documenation. To a large extent, this is because of your help and sharing the info. These forums, free information exchange and you guys rock! Thanks a lot for all the info and support!
I really hope to see more approvals in this thread soon. Good luck!!! |
Topic: 485 RFE, Lot of documents needed !!
I was in Las Vegas and Death Valley for several days and did not check email (that would be $12 per 24hr of inet access, so I decided to have an additional ice cream instead). Feels like a totally different life, being disconnected from the WWW : )))
Well, here comes the surprise - and I hope you will soon see the same : )))

My response should be mailed today. Signed all the documents with the lawyer yesterday night. Lawyers are working around the clock to prepare H1 storm on USCIS. In the mean time I've received my new EAD.
Speaking about RFE response - lawyer told me that USCIS officers likes color papers between different documents. Blue before all passports, listing passport dates and ids, then green before each passport, listing that passport's dates and id, and so on for all other parts of the response. This should keep USCIS officers happy while they're looking through 2.5 lb of paper. Otherwise, AO may get really bored : ) |
