Interview Experience: We had our interview this morning. It went very well. They just asked for my tax returns, copy of my children's birth certificates, marriage contract and EVL. The IO then took our fingerprints and had us sign the cards that they will be using for our GC. He then checked the visa availability and our PD and since we are current and our background check are done, he approved our application on the spot. He gave us a letter congratulating us in becoming permanent residents and that we will be getting our cards in 2 to 3 weeks. The IO was very nice and professional and also told us that once we get our cards, we would need to get our SSN cards updated as well. I was actually speechless when he told us that he will be approving us today. After being here for almost 12 years and waited for almost 7 years to finish the whole GC process, I still can't believe it. Thank you everyone on this forum for all your valuable information and help. I will continue to pray for everyone that you get your GC soon. Just hang in there, it will come.
Notes: I -485 approved after the interview.

Topic: Transfer to National Benefits Center?

QUESTION: I have a question if the local office approve my case after interview would I see an email and case update online or they would just sent the GC in the reg mail.

Yes, you will see an online lud after your case has already been approved. It could take anywhere between 1 day to 90 days after your interview. It took mine 90 days.

Hello Oerrors,

How soon?..... Hope and pray we get GC soon.... my son realy need this on his college scholarship applications...

I understand about the college scholarship application. My son just got his GC in the nick of time. FAFSA requires applicant to be either a citizen or an eligible non-citizen (permanent resident). Hope you get yours soon. Good luck.

Topic: FINALLY!! WE got the magic EMAIL

Congrats, to you and your family!! Kabayan, it's time to schedule a vacation trip back home.

Yes, Kabayan. I want to visit home. It's a long 5 years since I saw Philippines. I want to see my family & friends. This Christmas for sure I'll be coming home.

That's great, kabayan! I'll be doing it this summer. My kids are excited already. You're in the east coast, right? I'm in NJ!

Just came back from our trip to the Philippines after 12 long years. Almost didn't recognize Edsa. Looks so different. Full of billboards. Anyway, enjoy your trip back home. We had a wonderful time. Boracay island is so beautiful.

Topic: Approved 485 but no green card in mail.

Problem is my status is updated online and I think it will not happen until I call them and let them know that I already have a approval letter from local office.

My situation was exactly like yours. I was interviewed 1/7/08 and approved on the spot. They gave me the same approval letter and was told that gc will be mailed out to me in 2 to 3 weeks. It was already over 6 weeks then and no gc yet, nor online update. Status still says pending. So I went back to local office and requested for a stamp because I needed to travel. Presented to them my e-ticket. After my travel, I checked my online status and still it says pending, so I opened an SR (service request). After about another 5 weeks, my online status changed to approved and card production ordered. All in all, it took them 3 months and 2 weeks before I finally received my card. I've read on some posts that some waited about a month but for me, it was longer. Don't worry, you're already a permanent resident, the card will arrive soon. You can also travel using I-551 stamp. I did. There was no problem at all using it even if your online status still says pending.

Topic: Philippines - EB3 Approval...Very Near or Very Far????

Mga kabayan. I'm sure this year, all your waiting will come to an end and you'll all get your gc. Waiting is probably the toughest thing I've done during my entire gc process. I've started my process in 1996 (H1-B) and 2001 for my AOS. My PD is 4/30/2001. Every single day, I've always dreamed of the day that our gc journey will come to an end. There is always that feeling of uncertainty. Feelings of highs and lows (but most of the time, it's low). My son and daughter were just 5 and 4 years old then and now, they're almost college bound. I was in my late 20's when I came here and now, in my early 40's (wondering where did the 30's go). Wife wasn't able to work as an H-4. Life was tough but like everyone of us Filipinos, we're in for the long haul, willing to endure the sacrifices of being away from our loved ones in return for a better life for our families. Early last year, I've already lost hope as I thought that some things like the gc were not meant to be. Thoughts of going back home started to come up but whenever I look at my kids, the drive to hold on is still there. God, prayers and family kept me going. Made me stronger. Well, my GC journey came to an end last January. 12 years after it all started. We finally received our GC just in time before my son goes to college. God works in mysterious ways. He is always there for us and He will answer our prayers at the right time. Keep praying. The answer is just right around the corner. Good luck to everyone.
By the way, we just came back from our visit to the Philippines after 12 long years. I've forgotten how beautiful it is and how great the people are. If you all get a chance, go and visit. Until now, my family still talks about our wonderful time there.

Topic: Transfer to National Benefits Center?

It is perfectly fine to travel on just the I-551 stamp. I just traveled to Asia 3 weeks ago with just the stamp even with my online status still saying "pending". Port of Entry officers are aware of this. They will just pull up your record on their system and will just ask you a few questions to confirm your identity. In my case, they just asked me my mother's maiden name. My wife was asked what her social security number is. He typed in our alien nos. and that was it. The officer told us "Welcome Back". I did bring with me all my paperworks just in case.

Regarding your GC. My welcome notice, approval notice and card production ordered e-mails were received 3 months after interview approval. The welcome notice came from NBC (National Benefit Center). Looks like all corespondences and updates for approved interviewed cases will be coming from NBC. Until then, your online status will still be saying "pending".
