Topic: EC time frame in nz
I just included a sentence in my covering letter as to what date I would like to travel (in Jan) and that I would be most grateful if they could please process my application as soon as possible given the long wait so far. I highlighted everything in the maintenance section (bank name, logo, funds etc) as I didn’t want to leave anything to chance and wanted to make it as easy as possible for the entry clearance officer. The staff at the embassy were very helpful and checked that I’d submitted all the documents I needed to and that they were all signed.
Umm.. KiwiDP not sure about calling the “race card” mate, it is an old story and unless you do have A LOT of evidence of being singled out def don’t jeopardise any future chances you have of applying. What was the reason they rejected your visa and are you reapplying/ or asking for a review?
What I would say is to those kiwis applying is DON’T submit your application more than 3 months before your date of travel. My friend did this (a kiwi living in Oz so submitted it to the Canberra embassy) and they took the money and declined her app without even looking at it. Also just read of another Aussie who had EC denied (with HSMP letter) for the same thing, not sure if our embassy is doing it but just another thing to be aware of.
Leaving in Feb as need to sort a few things at home first, can’t wait to return to life in London. have left all my clothes etc there and it seems so long ago!! Good luck everybody again. |

Just wanted to let you all know that I have got an email saying that my visa was approved and dispatched today. I submitted this on the 11th Dec in person at the British Embassy here in Wellington so that would make it 9 working days in total for a successful Tier 1 with HSMP approval letter. Freaking stoked and thanks to the British Embassy for processing it so fast after jumping through so many hoops, what a great christmas present!!! All the best everybody :) |

I've said it over and over but Trackitt and these other forums are like a support group!! So good to know that there are others going through the same stresses/dramas/debacles/.. seriously the only thing that keeps us sane!! :)
Fingers crossed for everybody.. a friend just booked her biometric appt last week and got one the next day so there isn't a hefty wait on that *yet*. Hoping they pick up the pace over the next few months.. like Karen, I started this HSMP visa crap aaages ago in London and will be def glad to see the back of it. My friends waiting for me to get back have already made arrangements for my welcome back party hehe so excited am going to get absoutely sloshed!! |

I went to those seminars a couple of years ago and I highly doubt that the EC processing officers will be "on the floor" answering questions about EC processing times, delays, procedures for speeding up applications etc unfortunately. If I recall rightly it was more of a "marketing event" where the different travel agencies, airlines, big OE startup companies etc were exhibiting their services in an expo like event. I remember asking a curly question to one of the guys in the BHC stand and he was like "ahh mate, you'll have to contact the EC officers directly". Also, must admit that sending an email directly to visamail.wellington gets a more direct response from someone involved in the Visa processing centre as opposed to the general hotline which is pretty much designed to give you advice such as how to pay for your applications, what time the embassy is open, how long you have to wait for a visa to be processed (everything that you can get off the website).
I am not at all surprised to be honest that Tier 1 applications are taking this long even at our embassy despite us having a smaller catchpool to work with than say, our Australian counterparts. My employer's Immigration Lawyers in London have contacted our embassy here in NZ (I'm swinging a work permit instead of waiting out the HSMP maintenance requirement and changing when i get to the UK) and they have said flatly 5-8 weeks for all visa applications (if not longer, 12 weeks maximum). HR in London even went as far as to say they had flights booked for me (which they do), my start date (as soon as I get back to London) and other miscellaneous info such as accomodation and funds available, and was still told that unfortunately I still had to wait the 5-8 week processing time. This is for a work permit EC application which generally gets rushed through ahead of other visa applications (based on the lawyer's previous years' experience sponsoring kiwis over to its London office) so call me an absolute, tired cynic of this whole visa system and its red-tape laden beauracratic monkeys but I doubt that the Wellington BHC will rush Tier 1 applications through any sooner than their published time frames.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... somebody prove me wrong!! |
Topic: Mis spelt middle name on hsmp approval letter
First of all congratulations :)
Re the typo, I would check with the embassy where you are submitting for EC (some are more strict than others) If you have a few months to wait for maintenance etc though, i would go back to the HO and request a new letter as you don't want to have waited that long only to be told to "wait for an appeal" because of a silly typo!!!ahhh how frustrating, but nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to British Beauracracy!

thanks for sharing and yes please def keep us posted when you get it (being positive for you!). Im living in Wellington so will hand over my application in person as well.. can't quite believe that it would take longer than a month to get it, especially considering we're supposedly out of the "high season of March-July" (i think it was!)
Quick stupid question, on that appendix doc did you just check "maintenance funds" and then listed the docs (ie bank statements, letter from bank) or did you briefly outline all the other section docs as well (ie birth cert for age, payslips/tax for income etc..)
just going through my checklist well in advance now to avoid any further suprises, we've had enough of those this year what with this new maintenance rule, lengthy delays and crazy things happening in other BHCs a little too close to home (really felt sorry for our australian counterparts with that WHV breach rule.. crazy!) ...
Cheers mate |
