Topic: Obama EO: EAD for approved I 140

The main excitement around 140 EAD was the possibility of dependents being able to work. Now since that is achieved through H4 EAD - i'm curious what benefits does this change really bring, other than freely change employers? We're still enslaved stuck to the same trade as long as we don't get GC aren't we?

I got much to refute, but in interest of keeping this constructive i'll refrain.

I'll instead suggest, [now that you have an account :-)] invest in the campaigns that appeal to you, and don't in the ones you disagree with - if you are genuinely interested in helping. Let the end result of all this be towards one goal.

P.S. - "looking at illegals as subhuman", not sure where you got that from. I never read that here.

Can you clarify what happened exactly? I tried to trace back the original thread but couldn't find.

BTW all options are on the table.

I personally *absolutely* consider H4 as a system as slavery. A "mental" slavery of sorts. Its quite ironic that the H4 folks have a namesake "physical" freedom to move around, but are completely chained when it comes to financial independence, working rights etc.

Having said that, with whatever views you may have - lets move on and focus on the various campaigns.

"In our case the video will feature 2 minutes of tying hands and put a tape on faces to mark the plight of H4 spouses? "

I liked this idea as the website theme. This will be appropriate messaging - if it comes to that.

A whole lot happened over the weekend :-)

Happy to help anyway i'm needed.

I suggest - lets divide this into short term and long term campaigns. Short term to keep the pressure, long term to take the fight to the congress.

Short term - Twitter and Post card (the latter can be batched and sent in at regular intervals to communicate that we are still waiting)
Long term - (1) Build a website with a thought provoking theme (Repressed in America/Free slaves/American shame?) and have a rotating short video story of H4. This can then be used to socialize. (We should continue to build on the website Knight created?)
(2) Plan a peace march by March/April if things don't get moving.
(3) Plan a video documentary.

If things indeed don't materialize by Feb i can be the campaign manager for one of the long term strategies.

On another note - let not any negative comment derail the spirit of this thread. Leadership comes with its own set of attacks - lets be resilient and positive.

I personally don't see a good ROI on this and therefore my vote would be no. But as life has taught me several times :-) i could be wrong - so go by your gut feel. I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

I don't mean to belittle your suggestion, but if i sense the situation right based on the telecon - we all *are* expecting to have the H4 EAD rule passed soon, right?

So what's the point of sending flowers etc? What are we trying to solve using that? The perception it produces is that the rule is either dead or stuck indefinitely and we want someone to pick it up.

Please remember the system here works on objectivity and facts - not on emotions. I remember somewhere in 2007/8 the community did the same thing - send flowers inspired by Munanbhai movie, and it did not do anything more than amuse some people even though we got media attention. There was 0 impact. I personally thought it was a unwise move. I think the twitter campaign is enough. If need be we can step it up in a different way.

Long story short - shouldn't we have a little bit of patience?

Most of the GOPers are in fact far more favorable to legal immigration - barring a fringe set of people like Rep Steve King of Iowa. But their sheer inaction on immigration makes them as culpable as the Democrats.

I actually don't get that sense. He mentioned that he expected it to pass by now. His tone suggested real optimism - and i would give him the benefit of doubt. He also noted the large amount of queries he's been receiving for H4 EAD.

So don't get disheartened - you guys have done a great amount of work in very short time. Keep the faith, i do believe we're close.

Assuming that's not a sarcastic comment - I absolutely *do* expect him to know more than what we know. If he cannot give the dates - he can/should most certainly know the process.

Hey guys - looking back at the meeting.. i think we should reflect on some learnings.

I think we did *not* do a good job of asking the most relevant questions. The most pressing questions in my mind were - where in the process is the rule stuck at? No one seems to know this (external agency, court?) - and based on that what are the remaining processes to complete. The second was the concern around possible delay in getting the EAD in case we run into DACA workload - this is a significant concern.

I was waiting forever to get the line to ask - but that never happened.

Going forward i suggest we coordinate better on what are the most important question across everyone's mind so we can best capitalize on the rare openings we get.

On another note - it was interesting to hear many "less deserving" folks (for lack of a better word) be so fearlessly vocal about their needs. We need to be as pressing as them.

Anyway - the sense i get is we're very close. But we need to remain patient and keep doing what we are.

I think i did my first tweet ever!

The momentum is contagious, and generating positive vibes. While i'm still skeptical (of impacts with the tweets) i have no problems contributing. Keep it going!

It may be a good idea for a few H4 folks to come together and send out a cohesive, well thought out message, and if possible take references to other media outlets.

Great to see the momentum here! Gentle reminder of a previous post - please post your questions on H4 EAD to the USCIS website before the conference. This is a far more tangible and direct activity. It will influence the nature of the whole meeting.

Thanks to those who've already posted. If you haven't posted your question yet, you can do so by going to this url https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/USDHSCIS... logging in with your credentials and posting the question in the "Event Registration" tab.

Hey guys,

Another opportunity to build pressure - and i believe this would be more bang for the buck. Before the conference begins on Thursday, let's post our questions to USCIS as well. This is mainly for the people dialing in.

For those going in person, maybe a good idea to have a list of "follow up questions" if they throw their hands up so we can pursue this accordingly.

Remember these questions will go directly to the USCIS director and who better than him to communicate to. When they see many emails coming from our community they will feel the urge to respond (or at least come prepared).

If you haven't posted your question yet, you can do so by going to this url https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/USDHSCIS... logging in with your credentials and posting the question in the "Event Registration" tab.

Last but not the least - i sense we *maybe* over expecting from the conference, so expect the best but prepare yourself for the worst.

'After 3 years if political mood changes, it will be easy for Uncle Sam to deport them. " - I can put my money on the fact that this will never ever happen in practice (mass deportation i.e.) It will amount to backstabbing and a massive loss of US human rights reputation world wide. There's just too much cost to pay.

Anyways , I think this thread is steering away from its primary focus of H4 EAD, so i'd suggest lets stay focussed on our goal.
