Topic: Sponsor of a relative while NOT physically present in the US
Thanks for your answer. I meant to say while the US citizen is living outside the US and the family members are outside the US as well. |

Topic: Dual PR Visa (Australia / Canada)
I have dual PR status in the US and Canada. People tell me that it is against the rule, but nobody can provide me the rule. But I know for sure that I will have to give up one of my PR status at some point and I am thinking about giving up the Canadian PR status and stay in the US.
While I was coming back into the US after landing in Canada, the US Custom and Border person looked at my passport and saw my Canadian PR stamp and he also knew as I was at very final step of getting my US GC (I was waiting for my I-485 approval and was using travel document to get back into the US) and he did not say anything about the rule that I cannot have PR status in two countries.
The thing that worked on my benefit is that I did not have to sent my passport for the US green card stamp as I was already living here and they sent my actual green card. If I had to send passport for visa stamp to USCIS/Embassy, they may have said something or denied my GC when they see Canadian PR stamp in it. |

Is it possible for a US citizen to sponsor his/her parents or brothers/sisters for US Green Card while living/working in a country other than the United States? Thanks for your time. |

Topic: Government job for Green Card Holder
My research so far tells me that I have to be a US Citizenship to obtain a Federal Government job, but I do not seem to find an exact answer on if a GC holder can obtain a State and/or Local Govt Job. Any ideas/advices? Thanks! |

Topic: 2 years away from the U.S. on Green Card
Thank you JoeF. So you are saying that it does not matter how you got your green card (in my case, employment), you can still apply for 2 years re-entry permit? Just wanted to confirm. |

Topic: 2 years away from the U.S. on Green Card
Do you guys know if somebody who got his Green Card through employment can stay away from the US for 2 years? I know a family who came here via DV lottery green card and was able to go back home for about two years, but they had to apply for something with the USCIS before they left the US. Not sure if the same applies to employment based green card? Thanks! |

Topic: Has anybody given up his/her US green card for Canadian PR?
I am wondering if you know somebody who has given up his/her US green card and moved to Canada permanently (as a PR). If you have done it yourself, please share your experience/story. If you know somebody who did it and you know his/her story, please share it too. Thanks for your time and reply. |

Topic: A couple of questions for Immigration Gurus!
I totally forgot about the Social Security Card update. Thanks for reminding me. I will do that next week. I have a driver license that does not have any restriction stamp, so I am guessing there is no need to update the driver's license. Thanks. |

Topic: A couple of questions for Immigration Gurus!
Thank you all so very much for your time and information. I took care of the change of address part online and leaving the company part, well I need to find a job first and go from there. But I will definitely wait until July/August to move to another company even if I find one sooner. Thanks again. |

Topic: A couple of questions for Immigration Gurus!
1. I got my GC in January and took two months unpaid vacation and went home. When it comes to the six month "unwritten rule" that everybody talks about before you could leave your sponsoring employer safely, can I count my two months vacation period as part of the six months period?
2. As a GC holder, do I still need to update my address with the USCIS every time I move (within 10 days)? What would happen if it took me longer than 10 days to update my address (it's been more than 10 days since I entered the US and I have not updated my address yet)? What is that form called? Thanks for your time. |

Topic: Getting bachelors in U.S. using credits from 3 years degree
Immigration status matters to be qualified for in-state tuition fees. F-1 is never qualified (I know this because I spent about 10 years of my life on F-1). H1-B and H4 qualify in some states, but not in all states. Most of the states require you to be 1 year resident of the particular state before you can qualify and I think Texas requires 2 years (this applies to citizens and GC holders too). |

Topic: Layoff after GC approval...please help
Are there ways to leave your GC petitioning employer earlier than 6 months without affecting your future citizenship? Not that I am planning to do that at the moment, but just wanted to know if there are ways to do that if I change my mind in a couple of months.
Can I also change my job title/duties in less than 6 months if I go to another company? Thanks! |

Topic: Card received and a couple of questions
I received my green card yesterday and I thought that I am done worrying about it, but I guess I am still not done with all the headaches.
One thing that comes in mind that I need to ask HR to change my status. How soon do I need to do that? Do I wait until I apply for and receive a new social security card that has no restriction mentioned on it?
I may not able to apply for the SSN card soon as I am leaving the country in about a week and will be back in two months. Can I wait to inform the HR and change the status once I come back?
My driver's license looks just like a license of a US citizen's, so I guess I do not need to change my driver's license (no non-immigration status written). Thanks for your time and help. |

There were two mails for each of us. One said "welcome notice". The other one said "approval notice" and has the green card inside it. |

Topic: Current Status: Document mailed to applicant.
I received two e-mails (me and wife) this morning and the e-mails say that our approval notices have been been mailed on Jan 16th. It was 3 days after the Card Production Order e-mail. Now, it sounds more real and getting excited for cards to show up in my mailbox. We are going home on Feb 1st and hope the cards arrive before we leave. |
