Topic: Which photo appears on GC?

Hi,
Both for my wife and myself, the photos that appears on GC are the one taken at the FP.
For the EAD however they used the photos that we submitted to our lawyers during application.

Topic: are small children allowed at a fingerprinting facility?

We went to San Jose ACS.

Both my wife and I were called simultaneously.
Our 3 year old son went along with me. During my fingerprinting I made him stand near me. He started to become fussy. But fortunately the lady who took my fingerprints had many interesting things on her desk. So I talked to my son a lot and he was okay. I also described to him what was going on and he was interested on why his father had his finger on this funny machine with lights. He was also able to see the computer screen showing the process of finger printing. He was quite interested.

Babies would be hard to bring along if both parents are called at the same time.

For toddlers it depends on the child. If he/she is very fussy then the people there might not be happy. For some reason all of them didn't smile at all. Normally women smile when they see my son. But this lady didn't. She smiled when she talked to her colleagues but never to us.

Topic: green card vs work based visa

Hi,
Here is an overview of the Adjustment of Status process:
http://www.immihelp.com/greencard/adjustmentofstatus/index.html
There are lot of information on that website (eg. about employment and about family based).

Topic: Plans after GC?

1. Continue with my current employer for at least 1 more year -> that's the plan
2. Leave my current employer and start my own tech company -> man....I don't have enough capital. Wanna partner up?
3. Leave my current employer and join a startup (say 1-20 people company) -> startups work you 80 hours per week.
4. Leave my current employer and join a mid-size or big company -> that's where I currently am right now. So no need to leave.
5. Leave my employer, have a party, then get back into the job market -> can't afford to have a party. Need to support family.
6. Leave my employer, and go back to my home country for a while -> home country not too appealing condition at the moment....only the food I miss.
7. Most likely just work inovatively at current company and make a living and live life at it's fullest.....five years from now apply to become a citizen and then hopefully by that time have enough money to travel (w/o needing to apply for visas to every country you visit)

Topic: Poll for Job market after 6 months?

Errata:

Ah but if the spouses of the primary suddenly all started looking for new jobs then yes there would be a surplus of spouse's looking for jobs (ie. H4 -> GC).

Then again not all H4 -> GC spouses are going to go look for jobs. Especially if they have kids.

Topic: Poll for Job market after 6 months?

Hi,

You forgot that those people who get their GC and quit their current jobs try to find a new one will actually open up a job position where they left. So most likely there will not be a surplus of supply and shortage of demand. In fact if every new GC holder quit and changed jobs with somebody else who just their GC then the job market will still be at equilibrium.

By the way not everybody who gets their GC is going to quit and find a new job. That is a risk. A job is not an easy thing to come by. Or else there the unemployment rate in this country will be 0%.

Topic: Do you change the job after you get GC in hand? Let's vote!

I don't plan to change jobs although head-hunters have been calling in like pack of wolves.
Many of my seniors (they seem successful at what they are doing) at the company have worked here for 10-20 years.
As long as the company is going the right way there is no reason to move.
The nice thing about getting your green card is if there comes a time where you find it necessary to move (eg. re-org in the company which moves you into a less attractive position) then you can move easily (provided that you find another job elsewhere).

But then again that is my thought for today. Tomorrow brings in another new day.
