I have to laugh at this. (Makes me think someone's watching). I just got my approval letter now. which means it took me 32 working days.

My thoughts are with the rest of you.

Topic: EC Processing Times in Australia???

So just got off the line from the Immigration Hotline. . . .

My HSMP was submitted on the 5th March. Approval letter arrived on the 12th July. Submitted for the EC on the 17th July, Got to the Canberra office on the 18th July. My (now old school tier 1) application is considered standard from their point of view.

Now the fun begins. . .

Given this information a status update will take 48 hours. (and I have to ring back to get this update) All it will tell me is whether it's picked up by an officer, not picked up by an officer or completed at which time it becomes a moot point. Oh I might get an eta, might . . .

So a couple of questions,

I asked if I was speaking to an immigration consultant ? no I'm a helpdesk guy. (hmmm, I recall the hotline saying 'directly to an immigration consultant' )

Can you tell me how long my EC application has been lodged with your organization ? We don't have access to any application records, perhaps you should follow up with the company you used to post the application in.

I asked about a rough eta for my application. Well it's about 35 - 40 working days he says. Hmm, what about if I had submitted a Tier 1 after July ? Answer: it would've been about 35 - 40 days. . . . So what's the point of the approval letter ?

Then I asked, Can you tell me anything else as I'd like to update others on a forum like what action can anyone take ? . . . no was that all Sir.

Conclusions. . .
- Yes they are polite
- An approval letter makes no difference (in fact *new* Tier 1 applications have been approved already)
- If you could get your paperwork back and submit for a spanking new Tier 1 you would've been better off.
- You don't speak to an immigration consultant

I'm beyond myself right now as to how in the digital age where I can track luggage around the world on a public website a process that took around 8 weeks in mid January with updates has now taken me since March this year and still no progress report or result can be found.

God save the queen!

Well, I'm 25 w/d today (submitted on the 17th July) and counting. This is *with* an approval letter. You'll find the website http://ukinaustralia.fco.gov.uk/en/visas/essential-info has been updated to reflect that tier1 request are not considered straightforward (I'm guessing as there's no approval letter in the process). From what I've learned they send the email notification for EC checks completed to people in the afternoon of each day (between 3 & 4pm).

Not the best process change I've seen implemented at all.

Just another example : - mine was submitted on the 17 July. Still no update on the EC yet. So far 22 working days at the moment.

Saw the update on the website http://ukinaustralia.fco.gov.uk/en/visas/essential-info about 20 wd for submissions before the 12 Aug, but I'm a little over at this point.

Good luck everyone!
