Topic: PLEASE HELP!! Form I-131 approved, but...

Hans,

I'm English and my wife is American. I've just applied for the Removal of the Conditions on my Green Card [I-751]. Time moves on...!

I've used one of these I-131 documents before and this is what it said/contained:

It's titled: 'Authorization for Parole of an Alien into the United States'

It contains at the head, the 'alien' name/d.o.b./US address and Alien number.

It reads:

"Presentation of this document will authorize a transportation line to accept the named bearer on board for travel to the United States without liability under section 273 of the Immigration and Nationality Act for bringing an alien who does not have a visa.

Presentation of this document prior to will authorize an immigration officer at a port of entry in the United States to permit the named bearer, whose photograph appears hereon, to enter the United States."

Under this is a panel containing the details of the Authorization [i.e that the holder is an applicant for adjustment of status, that the document is valid for multiple paroles into the US and that the duration of the document is for one year from the date at the head of the document. There is then a 'Notice to Applicant' section, which states your right to resume your application for adjustment of status, etc, etc.

At the bottom left of this single-sided document is a photograph of the 'alien', plus a stamp from the 'National Benefits Center' on the right, under this is a space for the parole stamp of the admitting immigration officer [for when your wife re-enters the country].

You MUST take this document with you when you leave the country and your wife will need to show it on your return. MAKE A COPY OF IT AND KEEP THAT WITH YOU.

The immigration officer I showed mine to had never seen one before - I subsequently spent two hours in a room with other deportees before they realised their mistake.

I hope this helps. I can't remember how long it took from applying to arrival, but from memory, 14 days is way too early. Expect it in around 1-2 months. [My experience is over two years old now, it may have speeded up, but somehow I doubt it.]

Topic: Playing the waiting game

I've filed my Application for Removal of Conditions on Saturday [13 January] at my local post office [Brooklyn]. My wife and I have filled out and checked all the relevant fields several times, included the required two photographs, a cheque for $205 of course, and added as many copies of supporting documents as we can gather together.

These included: State and Federal joint tax returns for both 2004 and 2005; Mortgage acceptance letter; mortgage payment coupon; mortgage interest statement 2006; Cheque account statement; Green card [front & back]; Wife's benefits+beneficiary statement; etc.

My conditional Green Card expires on 24 April, so I'm hoping I've filed in good time. Is there anyone out there that's had any kind of interview regarding these filings? I'm wondering what transpires, kind of questions they ask, that kind of thing.

Fingers crossed.
