Topic: What's in a name?

Well, I just wrote down the first thing that came to my mind regarding the GC process.. My name isn't good anymore as I am not w8ing anymore but I still hang around and like to read the positive threads such as this one. May all of you soon reach the peace of mind (regarding your U.S. immigration affairs) that I finally reached on Jan 17!

Topic: Schengen Visa

I don't need a visa anymore but I just remembered that about 12-13 years ago I needed one for a summer school in Belgium, it was issued by the Belgian embassy but I entered the Netherlands first, then traveled to Belgium. On a different trip, I visited France and Belgium also on a Belgian (Schengen) visa. You should be fine.

Topic: Schengen Visa

As far as I know, the Schengen visa can be used to enter any of the Schengen countries, regardless of which one of them issued it.

Topic: Multiple Service Requests on 140

My letter was less than a page long but about 4-5 paragraphs - containing enough, but not too much detail. I am copying and pasting as much of my letter as I can w/o giving out too much info:

*****
Dear Senator xxx:
Re: Immigration Cases with Receipt Numbers SRC-xxxxxxxx, SRC-xxxxxxxx

Intro: I am writing to request your kind help with my immigration cases filed with the USCIS..... something about how he has helped me in the past and I have complete confidence that his involvement will make a difference again.

A very short paragraph on who I am, when I came to the US, my education and work here (just 2 sentences)

A brief explanation of when my case was filed, how it is over the processing time according to USCIS website and how I got no info when I contacted USCIS cust. service

I would greatly appreciate it if you can take a moment out of your very busy day and contact the USCIS on my behalf to help expedite my cases. Your involvement has been instrumental in my prior visa-related issue and I believe it would help obtain a timely and successful resolution of my cases once again.

Conclusion: More thanks and assurance that I will spread the word about his kindness among my colleagues, friends, etc..
*****
I faxed and mailed everything w/ a delivery confirmation (you also have to include a privacy release form that each senator/congressperson has on their website); called the day after to make sure they got it. Called 2-3 weeks later to bug them again. At one point I know I will get a formal letter from them but I was told they had too many cases around the holidays and are running behind. As long as one of them has made the call to USCIS though, that was probably enough. Now, there is of course a chance that my case got improved w/o help, i.e. my turn just came before any senator inquired but I don't know for sure. Hope this helps.

Topic: I-485 approved but online status still shows I-140 pending

SunnyDays, seems like they are slow updating the CRIS as far as I-140s are concerned. Based on my experience (and that of "thedude"), you should get your I-140 approval email very soon. I was paranoid too but I think this is for real for all of us :) It takes a while for the good news to sink in and I was awake for half of last night but we'll get used to it soon, I am sure. Congrats and enjoy!!

Topic: Multiple Service Requests on 140

abcoolio, here is my 2 pennies - "multiple service requests" was b.s. at least in my case as neither I nor my attorney/employer had filed one. The attorney was going to file one at the end of this month. What helped in my case was either my congresswoman or my senator looking into my case. I wrote letters to both a month ago and then called them 2 weeks later and 2 more weeks later. It takes but a phone call or letter from them to get USCIS moving (I think they have a direct line to USCIS and other govt institutions). I had asked them for help 3 years ago in another visa case and they helped then too. Go ahead and send letters to your representatives and forget the SR b.s. That's my $.02..
