Topic: New SSN - stimulus package
Babuda,
If you are filing jointly, then both (here your case all three) should have SSN # (even though sounds strange but is fact)
See below from FAQ on IRS -
In most cases, the law does not allow stimulus payments for people who file a return using an ITIN. A taxpayer generally needs a valid Social Security number to qualify for the stimulus payment. If married filing jointly, both taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number — the only exception is a joint return on which either spouse is a member of the armed forces. Children must have valid Social Security numbers to be eligible as qualifying children. |

Same here, I had used taxact.com to file 2007 returns.
Please share if you find any info.
From IRS FAQ's - The 2008 tax instructions will include a worksheet to help those who did not qualify for a payment or those who received a reduced amount determine if they can obtain a benefit when they file their 2008 tax returns next year |

Topic: New SSN - stimulus package
Recently got EAD approved and received SSN # (in Oct '08).
When we filed tax returns in April 08, primary had SSN and dependent had ITIN so was not eligible for Economic stimulus package - (ESP 07).
Is 2007 ESP still valid or should we need to append our filings or wait until 09 ?
Thanks for the information & appreciate your time. |
