Topic: What emails/status do you get when 485 approved???

I agree. The card comes quick. I got approved on 6/19, then the online status changed to Approval notice mailed. I got both the actual card and the approval notice yesterday (6/25).

Topic: When is it safe to leave?

I recently got an email from USCIS stating that my 485 is approved and I will be getting the card within 30 days. I was wondering when will it be safe for me to switch jobs after getting my GC. I've been reading different forums about this issue, but I always get mixed messages.

Some people said I am free once I get my GC, but some said at least to wait 6 months. Are there any immigration experts can tell me which one is correct? Thanks!

Topic: who would like to answer this I-485 question?

OMG! I can't believe I am having the exact issue. My notice receipt date was 8/26/06, and USCIS is claiming they are working on cases received on 9/11/06. So I sent in a service request 2 weeks ago, and I got a letter in the mail yesterday telling me that my background check is not completed when I was clearly told by the officer at the Infopass appointment on 4/6/07 that all my name & security checks have been completed.

I am pretty sure this is a scam by the USCIS because they do not want to admit that they are so much backlogged than they want to be. Hence, they just tell us that our background check is stuck to buy them some more time. I scheduled another Infopass appointment for next week and hopefully the officer will be nice enough to let me know what's the real reason that my I-485 is still pending.

Topic: Need help- Infopass

I think you should definitely go. A friend of mine had the same problem - did not receive EAD for more than 90 days since she applied. She ended up going to an ACS and getting a temporary EAD. Infopass is nothing real formal, it just gives you a chance to talk to the USCIS officer if you have any questions.

Hope it helps.

Topic: What the heck is going on with I-140s in Nebraska?

Yeah, I actually was lucky enough to get I-140 approval in mid-Apr. My receipt notice date was 8/26, so I guess the USCIS is moving, but very very slowly. Now I am anxiously waiting for my I-485 approval because it seems like they are already working on cases received on 9/11.

If you've waited this long, I don't think it's worth it to switch to premium because it truly doesn't seem to speed up I-485 process.

Topic: Is using I-131 safe?

Hello,

My H1-B is going to expire soon, and my lawyer insisted I do not need to extend my H visa because my 140/485 have been pending for more than 7 months. So the lawyer made my company apply for an EAD for me instead to save money. If I don't have a H visa and wish to travel, I need to apply for AP right? Is its pretty safe to travel with AP while 140/485 pending? I am a little paranoid to travel without an H visa. Any advice will be appreciated!
