Topic: Should you follow IV?

Keep it simple guys, if you believe IV, support them
If you don't, then don't support.

I am pro IV, I have been in their advocacy event. and I believe them. I am supporting them.

Others, find your own route for getting Green Card backlog removed, rather than barking here.

Peace!!

Topic: H4 EAD - Need Help

Apply once she is back in USA. H4EAD takes 4-6 months to process, form needs you to provide I94 copy and number. I assume if she enters after application of H4EAD, her I94 number will change and will result in discrepancy.

Yes, bank can issue a certificate of assets. I had account with BoA, and they had a template with either of monthly, quarterly or six month average balance and current asset statement.

Send it across with whatever format you have, I dont think they even bother to see the details. Passport is what they see.

Didn't get notice from Vermont center, do I supposed to get ?

You can check H4EAD tracker on TRackitt for getting general idea about timeline, the USCIS website also has some information but is mostly stale.

Topic: when to apply for SSN after getting h4 EAD card

Wait for 1 to 2 weeks.. We have been through the process, USCIS takes time to update records which are needed by SSN office to issue SSN.

so unless you have spare hours to spend at ssn office, it's better to go after two weeks.

No, you cannot work when H4 EAD is expired.

All comments saying you can work are misguiding. I've followed through H4 EAD for long and can tell you confidently this.

Topic: Continuation of employment- H4 EAD renewal in process

You have to apply 180 days before end of validity date of your existing H4-EAD

No, H4-EAD does not have continuous employment. You cannot work using your EAD from end of validity to start of new EAD. Officially, you need to take a break

Topic: I-140 EAD approved by OMB

if you dont know already, new I140 rule is useful for ur case. Even if you resign and your old company revokes i140, it will be still valid forever. You can use same i140 to get your h1b extension and your wife's h4-ead extension.
But you cannot file i485 using that.

Topic: Is it good idea to buy a home now

The math is quite simple. It takes at least 5 years to break even the house, after that if you sell the house at same price as you bought, you are in profit.

http://www.realtor.com/mortgage/tools/rent-or-b...

At this situation, we should not think about math but think practical.
Lets say I buy a house worth 500k, 10% downpayment, 50k. In worst case, if in next 90 days an EO is released that has bad news, and I have to go back, I will be in straight loss of this 50k (approx, 6% realtor commission, 2-3% closing cost).
Of course, I am not counting other spending like furniture and all.

Topic: Is it good idea to buy a home now

I work on H1B at one of the biggest Finance company in US, which do not have any outsourcing right now and dont see that coming in next 5 years..
i recently bought house, but now i am scared.. why? cause I know if something happens on immigration front, no company would hesitate to kick us out, and if that happens, then i have to sell my house and i will lose a lot of money. Even if I sell it at same price as I bought (which is unlikely) I will lose 8% to agent and transfer taxes.

I would suggest not to buy till clouds are clear. Buying home in other than home country is Risky

Topic: I-140 EAD approved by OMB

Last week my neighbor left for India for one year, he works in Cognizant. He said because EB2/3 wait times are too long he chose this path to go to India and come back and file under EB1.

By the way, he is not manager.
