Question to people that know about I-551 temporary stamps

Limboo

I551 is a permanent residency visa. Visa is always placed in the passport.

In order to have a valid passport you need to show your embassy that your status is legal in United States. If you have your welcome notice then you can show that to the embassy and get a brand new passport.

The IO will place the I551 (I believe it is a label and not an ink stamp) permanent residency visa into your passport.

Good luck friend

Consulates give passports whether you are in status or not. The purpose of a passport if for travel. I know mine does. and the stamp has a special ink that cannot be replicated. The stamp will not be placed on anything but a passport.
