Hi amerikanerin,

congratulations for your EC!

question: Did you actually apply to Tier 1 to get the EC after obtaining the HSMP letter? If yes, did you have to translate the bank statements?

Thanks!

I applied to Tier 1 to get the EC after obtaining the HSMP letter, using the Home Office guidance for those with approved HSMP letters. (So I filled out the Tier 1 forms, but didn't have to do all the sections as the approved HSMP letter applied toward some of them.)

For the maintenace, I provided 2 pieces of evidence, statements + a bank letter, to be sure it would pass.

-3 months of Germany bank statements, which I took to my bank and asked them to stamp and to write the date next to the stamp
-translations from a certified translator, for the statements. I had faxed her the statements in advance of getting them stamped, so that she had a headstart since the 7 day window is so short.
-a bank letter (which I wrote in German and English), which I gave to the bank and asked them to produce on their letterhead, dated, along with signing, stamping. They were very nice in using both the English and German parts and fitting it on one sheet, they gave 2 signatures also, so looked very official!)

Probably the letter alone would have been sufficient, but I was taking absolutely no chances, considering how much everything cost so far for the application, etc. Here's the letter I used. If you're interested in the German text, send me a message, I would need to look for that soft copy, or to scan and email it:

To Whom it May Concern:

This letter is to confirm the financial standing of:

amerikanerin
Dresnder Bank Account Number 123456789

Frau amerikanerin's account currently has XXXX EUR as of 15 October 2008. This balance is immediately available for her use, without restriction.

This letter also confirms that during the period of 28 Jun 2008 - 15 Oct 2008, this account has never fallen below XXXX EUR, on any day of this period.

P.S. For info--I submitted my papers through the Duesseldorf VAC. Other questions, let me know.

Hi again,

Well, many thanks for this detailed reply, and your willingness to help! I am so grateful :) I actually managed to find a translator who could do the job in the same day (yesterday), collected my original bank statements, got a stamped print out of transactions from the bank and submitted my application through Dusseldorf VAC this morning!! Unfortunately, the bank did not accept to issue such a letter when I asked them few weeks ago, they said that no bank in germany would do that for me (obviously, no?). But let's hope the bank statements and stamped print outs would do.

In case you haven't found a job yet, gluck. The economic crisis is making this hard, and it seems we've both been struggling so long with this whole process, but let's hope for the best ;)

Amerikanerin, you made my day with this msg!! thanks again :))

tc,
muenchner
