Can anyone shed any light on this? I am flying to Hawaii from San Francisco next week. Do I need to take Passport and AP?

nope you are not needed to but just keep it with you as a gud verification document.. we went to US virgin islands and Puerto rico ( US territory like Hawai) in june and nobody checked passports.... but keep it just in case..

you only need to bring your Pasport ONLY if you leave the US soil or if you go on a cruise. Any govt issue photo ID (e.g. Drivers licence) will be sufficient to board the plane to Hawaii since Hawaii is a US state. I fly to Hawaii for vacation every year (I am on 8th year H-1B) and they accept NJ Drivers licence everytime I board the plane. However you can still bring the passport if it provides additional peace of mind.

My lawyer once advised me to always carry passport and H1 approval/ext notice whenever I am travelling through the domestic airports. My job required frequent travel at that time. I mostly followed his advise but sometimes I did not carry the passport, though I always carried State issued D/L.
The advantage I found by carrying the passport is if there is any hiccup of some sort (TSA or whatever), then you are saved from any unnecessary hassles of justifying your status. Like others have suggested above it is a peace of mind.

sweet jesus, what kind of a question is this ?
"Hawaii (/h™ˆwaɪ.i/ (help·info) or pronounced /h™ˆwaɪ”i/; Hawaiian: Mokuʻina o Hawaiʻi) is a state in the United States"

Foampile,
For persons with certain nationalities, this is quite a valid question. I have travelled extensively on my H1 job and I can totally understand validity of this question.

Thank you, Wtng4Ever.
Foampile:- This forum has been created precisely for this purpose. So that us less fortunate ones can exchange pertinent information. I'm well aware of how most blogs turn out so I'm not going to retort to your comment.
However, it would be best if all of us would stick to answering each others concerns rather then mocking them.
