Dear Forum Members,
Anybody has recently travelled using AP and had port of entry at Chicago? Do they ask for secondary inspection?
I need to book a connecting flight so I just want to know approximate time estimate required for immigration. Also, anybody has encountered any problems at chicago, please let me know? What questions usually they ask?
Thank You,

Don't know the answers for the rest of your questions. But if this is your first-time travel with this AP, then you will, in all probability, spend a solid 2 hours in their waiting room. Loads and loads of first-time AP users have missed their connecting flights, no matter the airport in question, thanks to this. So, give yourself at least a 3-4 hr window, I'd say.

It really depends on the time you arrive at POE. If there a lot of intl flights arriving at the same time, you will probably have to wait for couple of hours. It probably doesn't have anything to do with if its your first time on AP or second. The first 2 times we had to wait for 2 hrs (afternoon arrival). Most recently our arrival was at 5am and the place was quite empty. we spent maybe 15 mins in secondary. Only question asked was 'for how long were you outside US'. No questions asked at previous occasions.
Best to book your connecting at least 3 hrs out.

I'm not sure if the other guys that post here have actualy travelled thru O'Hare. I did and not once, couple of times and my wife too. I've never been taken to a secondary inspection office at O'Hare! Everything was done at the first entry point, and we nevered wait more then 15 min at the desk to have the AP and passport stamped. Yes sometime the line to get to the desk was long but at the office desk is 5-10 min wait time.

I came through Chicago on Monday (01/11/2010) by using AP. Immigration officer did NOT ask a single question. Just stamped both AP documents, took one and gave one back to me.

Did you go through any secondary inspection like other airports (JFK/Newark)?

I came through O'Hare on 01/15/2010. The flight arrived from Frankfurt at 10 PM. This was my second time coming through using AP. He looked just at my AP and Passport and stamped them. Took one copy and gave me the second one. He asked me since when I was on AP and why I had not received my green card yet ( :)))
He also told me I will need to have two copies of AP everytime I travel so that he/they can keep one copy and give me the second. Incidentally I think he was Desi because his name was Ilyas and their was a hot Latina talking to him and waiting on him.
P.S. When I came in through Detroit using my AP first time two women stamped and let me through in say 10 mins.

I came yesterday (Feb 7, 2010) from frankfurt to chicago. They sent me for secondary inspection. No questions asked. It took about 30-40 min overall. My previous experience at Newark (dec 09) was bad and I have posted the details in this thread.
Thank You,

You mentioned in your post that you travelled via Frankfurt with AP. Did you use your AP at Frankfurt for boarding US-bound flight? Did you face any hassle? I am confused whether I should travel via Frankfurt using AP since I am reading mixed experiences on the net although that route is most convenient for me.
Thanks,
|
I did not have any trouble while using AP at Frankfurt. They asked me what type of visa/GC card you have. I showed them AP. They just checked it and returned then allowed me to go on board. I think the immigration officers at Frankfurt are well aware of AP.

Another quick question, did u had a transit visa while transiting via Frankfurt?
Thanks much,
|
I do not think you need transit visa. On the safer side, you may want to call/send email to german embassy and ask for their opnion.
I was on business trip to europe, so I had schengen visa stamped on passport. But I think on the flight there were few asians (especially indians) without any visa (US or europe) and travelled with AP
Even though I had schengen visa, they did not check that page, but asked about what document do I have to travel to US which was AP that I showed them
