How important is it to maintain existing status after EAD card is received? I understand it's a risk if your case gets denied. But is it an issue for the interview/officer why you have not maintained status before receiving the green card?

While at interview the officer looks for continuous employment.

Honestly for me and my company it was useless.
I had EAD since July 2007 Fiasco which was 5th year of initial H1. but employer kept renewing H1 beyond 6 years (H1 expired in 2015). In 2016 I had AOS interview and the officer saw all of past I-94s for all H1s, asked if same employer? and then went to check EADs. She verified for any gaps in employment. Thats all.

You shouldn't answer that question since its employers responsibility to extend H1 or have you work on EAD.

I did not renew my H1 after I got my EAD. Now I am working only on my EAD since 1st April...Can't say anything about interview, hopefully it would be fine as they care about employment only and that's why they give EAD
