does maryland driver license also mark as TEMPORARY, if you are moving in from a different state to maryland with EAD card and I-485 pending?
|
Maryland driver license is marked 'temporary' if you had the license from some other state for less than 18 months. Check this link, http://mva.state.md.us/DriverServ/Apply/... I don't think EAD or pending 485 makes a diffrence. When I moved to MD, I only had 1 yr remaining on my H1 but I still got driver license valid for 5 yrs.

sabr: I am on H1B too. I moved to Md from Ca in 2003. They gave me a license for 5 years. Then they renewed it again for five years in 2008 to 2013 without asking any docs. All I gave was thumb or one finger print and renewal fees.

I have my other state license since 1998 but its expiring in Jan2009. So, If I move to MD this dec and try to renew it with EAD(valid till Aug 2010), they will give me a TEMPORARY marked id or a regular one?

did you have to take the written test there again? or just gave your CA license?

Sabr,
You will get a "real" one without temp. As I read the link above, they only give provisional drivers licenses to new drivers ( less than 18 months) regardless of citizenship. Also, as far as I know, and it is confirmed by the link above, MD does not check immigration status. They accept EAD or GC as a form of ID but they don't require it if you for instance have SS card and DL from another US state.
A friend of mine moved from MD to CO, and since MD does not check immigration status, CO required her to prove her status to be able to transfer even though she is a USC. The weird part was that they didn't want to accept her birth certificate from Washington D.C. as proof as a) D.C. is not a state (just the nations capital) b) it said Certificate of Birth instead of Birth certificate.

Only vision test. No written test.
