was just thinking back about how many different visas I have been here..tourist, student, investor, temp worker with 2 diff employers...

this got me thinking about how they check if you were here legally or not? how far back do they look?

My I140 is approved, and I have only submitted basically what they ask for (really only my H-1B status information). I understand that most I458s get approved is I140 is already approved.

that is a very good question. Probably they may be able to trace through your SSN or I94 number. Specifically I94 , if you had applied for COS from one Visa type to another while staying in US.

I also believe you will have to submit all your previous visits/Visa type/Date of entry/exit while applying for any Visa.

i also had to renew my passport in 2000, so I don't even know how to show my status before 2000. my govt took the old passport, i believe.

They will definitely look as far back your priority date goes.
