Trackitt Members,
I got an RFE for my wife(dependent) earlier in the week. She is Canadian, and I am applying under cross-chargeability provision. RFE is for a long form of Canadian Birth Certificate showing her parent's name and other details. During initial submission, we only submitted the small form of birth certificate, which only showed her birth date.
This morning we received the long form of Canadian birth certificate. I noticed on the certificate, and I also talked to the Canadian official, it seems like Canadian government had the incorrect record of my mother-in-law's maiden name.
On the birth certificate, they wrote her middle name as her maiden name, and there is no mention of the middle name. Probably at the time of the birth, this was entered wrong.
I contacted Canadian official, and they say it can take about 6-8 weeks to get the government records corrected and get a new certificate.
Do you guys think that immigration officer will accept this? What do you recommend? I don't want my case to get rejected due to this mistake. Please advise.

In your situation I would:
1.) Send the Long Form Birth Certificate as is.
2.) Send a supporting letter explaining what you just posted.
3.) Get an affidavit (notarized) from your in laws supporting the claim.
4.) Ask an immigration attorney before submitting the above.
5.) Get the process started for correcting the same with the Canadian Officials so in case of additional RFE at least the corrected BC is in your hands.
I'm not an attorney so please confirm before doing the above.

Here is a website from where you can order your long form birth certificate.
https://www.orgforms.gov.on.ca/eForms/scr02_Befo...
Select the expedite service for extra $30, they would mail it within 5 days. Make sure you get it delivered to the Canadian address, only then they will mail it within 5 days. They don't even offer expedite service for USA on this website. But this is the only way you can get your certificate.
On the first page, once you define the applicant and subject's name, under organization put the person name in Canada who you want this to be delivered to. And then have this person mail it to you, if you are in USA.
Canadian official are really efficient, I got mine within 2 days in Canada and then next day to USA.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the TIPS. I did stumble across that site (in panic mode) but wasn't sure if that was the right thing to apply for. We Canadians always use the short (credit card style) birth certificate, since it's Gov't issued. I've NEVER in my life ever needed anything else.
Best of luck for your GC!
