Have you read this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071122/ap_on_go_ca...

Does anyone have any idea as to what it means for those of us who are waiting for our GC? After reading the article, I get the feeling is that USCIS is going to give the Citizenship backlog more priority thereby putting the 485 applications on the back burner. Am I wrong here? Thoughts?

Imagine the name check delays this going to cause. You have to go through all the same procedures, FP, name check, all over again after 5 years of residency. Yup, this thing is going to be a fine mess, unless they figure out how to speed up the process. There is a probability that many new immigrants will vote democratic, hence the Republicans will be in no rush to add millions of new voters.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Well lets just hope they do not decide to set up I-485 back log centers (like they did with LBC's)!!!!!!! eeeeeek!

I just spent 1668 days at the Dallas LBC and am not keen to spend another 1668 days at a I-485 LBC! perish the thought.

I can just imagine USCIS saying "Let's just set up a I-485 back log center for the July/August Filers, They have waited 5 years, I am sure they wouldnt mind another 5 years!"

:o(

it sounds that we will renew our EAD for another year or so..... why not they give us an EAD that will expire to the time of approval of GC (AOS).... this way it will lessen their processing in EAD applications and they help also applicants in paying too much application fees...

They are not interested in speeding up.
They wants more money...
Each EAD will give them money !!!

I do not mind paying the fee every year. But what I do mind is the delay and un-certainities surrounding the EAD application. How many of us has gone through the notion if we will receive the EAD on time? When will it come? Why can we not just renew the EAD at our local office by walking in? Just how we do it @ DMV. How about making an online renewal system? Stream line it..

There is an online system to renew EAD, but you still have to wait for the card to arrive. You even can pay by credit card on it. Very easy to use system, takes about 3 to 5 minutes to do. Not sure if it is open to general public or just to immigration law firms.

Here is another key quote from today's times

Citizenship and Immigration Services is required by Congress to draw most of its operating budget from fees. When the agency head, Emilio T. Gonzalez, announced the fee increases in January, he pledged that the agency would become more efficient and reduce wait times for deciding applications. Fees for naturalization, for example, increased 66 percent, to $675 from $405.

The agency plans to use the higher revenues to hire 1,500 employees, an increase of about 10 percent over its current staff of 15,000, Mr. Wright said. For the time being, agency employees have volunteered to work overtime to help clear the backlog.

Much of the rush for naturalization came from legal Latino immigrants. Hispanic organizations, including the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Educational Fund, and Univision, the Spanish-language television network, led a nationwide naturalization campaign this year in which hundreds of thousands of longtime legal immigrants signed up to become citizens.

Immigration officials said they would work to complete naturalization petitions in time for new citizens to vote in the elections next November. They strongly denied that the delays had any partisan political motivation.
