I-140 Processing Times by Filing Date
The graph above shows approval times based on the date on which I-140 was filed using regular processing type. For example, if the Y-axis shows 50 days for Aug '05, it means that I-140 applications filed in August 2005 took an average 50 days to be approved from the date the I-140 applications were filed. The black line represents the average number of days it took for applications to be approved for a given month, and the gray line represents the number of applications that were approved for that month.

Note: Some months may be missing from the graphs above because, from the data that users have posted on trackitt, no case was filed or approved in that month.

It would be nice if you please split the I-140s based on "Premium Processing or Normal" as they will skew the normal track cases.
Posted by extinct on 28 Sep 2006
Actually splitting by "Concurrent or Not Concurrent" option will also be nice.
 Posted by 2hip4u on 02 Oct 2006
And splitting by service center
Posted by trackitt on 02 Oct 2006
Ok, working on it. Thanks for the suggestions.

split different application categories. such as divide EB1a, Eb1b, NIW, PERM etc.
Posted by trackitt on 03 Oct 2006
Our I-140 tracker doesn't have EB1 category split into EB1a and EB1b. And we don't ask for NIW information. That may be something we might ask users to enter from now on, but graphs will be only be possible when we have enough data added. And the last point you raised about PERM. How does I-140 depend on whether your labor was approved via RIR or PERM?
Posted by selfmade on 01 May 2007
I think it's a good idea to have separate category "converted to premium" in addition to premium/regular, since it affects averages. If converted case falls into premium then the premium average is longer than it should be, if converted case falls into regular than regular average is shorter then it should be.
Posted by trackitt on 01 May 2007
You're right, but that makes things quite complex. We don't currently support "converted to premium" as a separate I-140 processing type. Until we support that, we can't provide the information you're looking for.

But great feedback. We're aware of the problem and will look into it in the next few weeks. Thanks.

It seems to me that the best way to handle approval trends is to generate these curves on demand. That is, every user specify his selection of criteria that is applied to the DATA and then, the approval trend curve is displayed. Currently, one cannot perform such analysis unless he download all the trackitt information into an excel sheet, and play with it.

Some of the criteria that I think is crucial to give us users a better understanding of how the USCIS is functioning are:

1- Service center
2- Regular or Premium
3- Converted to Premium (Semi-premium)
4- EB2, or EB1, with more refined detailes, like EB1A, EB1B, EB2NIW, etc....
5- With or without RFE
6- Cuoncurrent filing, Semi-concurrent, non-concurent

I am sure that admins may consider several more issues that can be helpful in generating approval trends that satisfy most people who are using this superb trackitt website. At this point, these approval trends are not very helpful.

Finally, I am not sure if information available at this website may also be useful:

Excellent feedback. We will definitely look into the on-demand graphs soon. We want to help out as much as possible.
Posted by ssuurrss on 22 May 2007
Probably a conversion date from regular to premium would be more helpful.

Not directly related to I-140 but is it possible for you guys to allow a query to find out where a particular priority date falls in the database? For example, my EB2 priority date is Jan 25, 2005 and I would like to know how many people are in the queue ahead of me waiting for their PD to become current. It could give some sort of a picture as to how long the wait is going to be.
Posted by trackitt on 08 Jul 2007
You can get that information from the I-140 tabular data.

Go to http://www.trackitt.com/usa-immigration-trackers/i140-tracker/
Select the "Status" filter as "pending"
Sort by "Labor Filed" and count all cases where this date is greater than 25 Jan 2005.
I see about 190 cases.

But remember that some people do not come back to update their case status on trackitt even after we send them 3 reminders. You will need to discount those cases. You'll see a "Number of Reminders" column in the tracker. We send users 1 reminder every 2 months that they don't update their case in the tracker.
Posted by InspectorFox on 25 Jul 2007
I think you should start deactivating accounts which do not update their information for 90 days or so... particularly cases which are pending. Data is the most critical item on your site and I suggest this would streamline the trend reporting and bring a value add to your site... Just my 2 cents. Also it would be great to see if we could track RFE and or Security Check based cases here as there are many individuals like me who think this data is very useful. Keep up all your great work! Thanks
Posted by trackitt on 25 Jul 2007
Yes, we plan to start deactivating accounts of people who do not update their 'pending' cases for a few months. Or maybe we will simply ignore those cases in our tables and graphs (like color-code them separately or allow user to filter those cases out). We're working on that one.

What would you like to see for Security Checks? The I-485 trackers already have columns for name check dates etc. Something more you're looking for?
Posted by InspectorFox on 25 Jul 2007
There are many individuals who are now stuck in Security/Background checks at the I-140 stage. I think it would be nice to see a column which you identify this.
Posted by bharad on 31 Jul 2007
The I-140 application still continues to show under regular processing eventhough it has been upgraded to premium processing. I think it would be nice to have a column Upgraded to Premium Processing, so that it helps in determining a more accurate approval trend of regular cases.

Is there a place or a link where I could find the real meaning to some of the contractions expressed in these logs?
All these: EB-1, EB-2, EB-3 et. al. are strange to me and I would like to be able to understand better what all is being said.
Thanks

As the filters are set, the page refreshes. On the refreshed page, can the specific url be provided, so that it can then be used as a bookmark to avoid setting the same filters the next time. similar to what google map does [In the address bar, it provides the actual url of the map being displayed - all the markers, zoom, driving directions are stored in the map - so that the url can be used the next time to regenerate the exact same map - with all the same markers and all]
Posted by ashirwadb on 31 Oct 2007
The above feature may be added to both the trend and tabular data pages. the url may be in the address bar or just highlighted on the top of the page.

Can anyone explain the difference between filing date and approval date. The definitions below the graph seem to overlap -- I am confused....

Which chart do I use if i want to measure from date of recieving LIN number

Thanks
Posted by Limboo on 12 Dec 2007
I agree. Can someone please better explain how the charts work. Please keep in mind that some of us have not had a math related class in over 20 years:)
Posted by awesome on 02 Mar 2008
"Can someone please better explain how the charts work". I don't work at Trackitt, but 'll take a shot at explaining:

The first chart shows average processing times by filing date (where I believe the filing date is equivalent to the "received date" on your receipt from the USCIS). The problem with this chart is that it does not make accommodations for applications that have not been approved, so "processing time" doesn't really mean processing time until approval, it just means the average that's showing in the "processing time" field for each entry (i.e. how long the application has been pending/outstanding). For example, right now the chart shows that the average processing time for apps filed in Feb '08 is 19 days. This is basically meaningless in my opinion, because none of those applications have actually been approved. The chart is somewhat more meaningful for very old dates, but since it's impossible to see how many apps are still pending for any given month, I'd basically ignore this chart.

In my opinion, the chart to focus on is the second one: processing times by approval date. The way to look at this chart is to look at the entry for the current month (241 days currently for Feb 08), and conclude that the applications that were approved this month took an average of 241 days to be approved. 241 days are roughly 8 months, so basically the applications that were approved in February were filed on average 8 months ago, which would be in June '07. This gives you a feel for when you can expect your application to be processed. For example, since mine was filed in July, I'm expecting it to be filed sometime next month (assuming the relevant USCIS office continues processing EB3 applications, which of course is far from being a certainty). Another way to verify this understanding of the chart is to sort the applications by USCIS received date, and you'll notice that more than 90% of the June 07 applications have beeen approved, while most of the July 07 apps have not been approved (which is exactly what you'd predict from looking at the chart).

I hope this helps.

SUGGESTION:
I would like to add date support lines on to I-140 Processing Time by Approval Date chart.
The line should be drawn like
from(1st day of month , processint time 0)-to(1st day of month + n days, processing time n day)
For example, March 1st is July 1st+244 days, so the support line that begins with Jul '07 is

from(Jul '07, 0) - to(Mar '08, 244)

HOW USEFUL?
Roughly the intersection of processing time (red dots) and the support line is your expected date of approval.
It's even better if the chart shows regression such as least squares of the processing time
Posted by MizzouTiger on 09 Mar 2008
thanks awesome for the interpretation of the charts. on the second chart, it shows 125 applicants who were approved on Feb 08. and in your explanation, it suggests that these 125 applicants filed on Jun 07. would you be able extrapolate from the graph the total no. of applicants during that time? just wondering how you obtained that more-than- 90% value?
Posted by MizzouTiger on 09 Mar 2008
i looked over the first chart. and it says there were about 150 applicants on Jun 07. so i guess the approval rating is less than 90% for Feb 08.
Posted by awesome on 13 Mar 2008
You're right, I was just eyeballing at the time, and the actual percentage is lower. For NSC, I think the percentage of June 07 apps that have either been approved or denied is 77% as of today.

I also realized that the chart I was looking at earlier was not filtered for NSC only, and when you do that, the avg processing time as of Feb 08 goes up to 296 days, which is almost ten months, which means that the average application being processed would be in Feb/March. That said, I think the interpretation of the chart is correct - they've gone through a bunch of June apps but also have significantly older apps that have been processed, which put the average at just under 10 months.

Sorry if I just made things more confusing... :)
