Hey Lindaandneil

Congratulations! you received your update letter and medicals together? Are you in the UK or already in Canada? Did you submit all your documents at the beginning?

Thanks Anita. Yes they came together - I was notified by email and then the paperwork arrived days later. Yes I submitted all the documents at the beginning as we applied before the simplified application process. I am using a Canadian Lawyer/Representative who is still helping us with the final processing. I currently live in East Sussex, UK and we're moving to Vancouver, BC for a taste of city life. Things are happening much, much faster than i thought as the AOR said wait 39 months- wish I'd sold the house earlier now but we were caught by surprise!!

Thanks for your reply. I have also applied through a lawyer and submitted all documents in the beginning, but I am AOR 16 March and have not heard anything yet.
I understand your problem about the house, with the house prices going down. Good luck though, all capital is worth double in Canada.
Good luck

Did you send your updated documents back? go on fill in the date just for me - It'll complete a very satisfying looking block on my watched cases ;-) OCD trackitt member........

Hi Blake. Nope not sent the forms back in yet! Give us a few days!! :-) We have to get the bankers draft thing done and then we're sending it off....! Police checks came back in 3 weeks so no horror stories there and the meds were easy enough, only took an hr for both of us. We made sure we got there in plenty of time just so our blood pressure would be normal!!

I think this whole process drives you to OCD, I've never been obsessed about anything before I applied to emigrate but the waiting is harsh! No doubt you'll be getting your 90/60 day letter in the next couple of months so you are not far behind :-) Where are you going?

We're off to Vancouver, hopefully around next March time.

I only noticed after I posted that you actually received the medical requests with your update letter and therefore would have taken the tests first - It wasn't my intention to pester you!

In recent weeks I've picked up this notion that once everyone on my list has taken the medicals then our letter is sure to come. Despite the constant pessimism from some quarters on the BritishExpat forums - I figure that the people motivated and organised enough to keep up with the system on trackitt are the ones actually likely to have made a decent application and therefore are a better indicator all round.

Congratulations on getting this far, and like you say hopefully we'll be close enough behind.

Regards.

Yay Vancouver - us too!! Very excited but we have to sell our UK house first so we may end up going around March/April next year too. Vancouver is so gorgeous and we want to live downtown, right in the heart of the action. Have you been there - i have only been once and loved it.

Do you have jobs lined up or like us, will get jobs when you get there? We tried but the Van agencies told us to come back when we had visas. I'm probably going on this jobsearch program http://www.landell.com/JSP.htm - it looks good, it's hightly rated by other expats and it's free plus you get to meet others in the same situation.

The British Expats forum is pretty good for info but you are right in saying that some people keep on giving pessimistic viewpoints and ramming it down peoples throats. I agree that if you apply now it will be very challenging but for those who applied pre Feb 2008 it is ok and positivity gets you the rest of the way there. I prefer the mymuchmor.com site myself.

Hi again,

We've been to Vancouver four times in total now, and may go out there again at Christmas if it looks like things are moving along.

Hoping to buy around the Kits / Point Grey area.

We haven't gone down the route of trying to land a job. My experience so far has been similar to yours in that the couple of agencies i've contacted in my field have said "yeah looks perfect, keep us updated when your application is closer to being finalised as our clients are unlikely to go down the route of sponsoring somebody"

Although i'd love to have shortened this process, I know i'll prefer having more employment options in front of me when we fianlly get there.

I'll have a look at those couple of sites you suggested, as I haven't seen either before.

Hi there
This site is quite good, specific to Van http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Brits2Vancouver/ and it's where I got the link for the jobsearch program. But you need to unsubscribe from all the emails somehow, they send lots and it's clogging my mailbox! It's handy for people in our situation and they have newbie get togethers, which I'm keen on not having many friends in Van - yet!

Us too - Kits/Coal Harbour/False Creek - might see you down there :-)
Agree totally on the job front. We were just all so lucky that we applied when we did, things are a little more tricky now but not impossible.

The muchmor site is great - people on it are very supportive and friendly and there's a nice magazine that comes out monthly, makes a nice read over a coffee break.

Hi G
Thank you very much! On Monday we lost our house buyers and Wednesday we gained our visas! Emotional week! I think we're going to Van Feb/March next year after a last christmas here and the worst of the winter is over. We'll either have sold or rented the house.

We're going up to London on the 2nd Oct to take the passports in and then I'm going back on the 16th to collect them. I didn't fancy anymore waiting, just want them in my hands. The relief of the processing being over is HUGE, it hasn't really all sunk in yet.

When do you hope to go out there? Do you still want to go to Van?

We're aiming for Vancouver at the end of march too.

I've also come to the conclusion that we'll probably be renting out our place as well now, if it sells then all the better but i'm not holding my breath. This mornings financial news might be enough to start the market going again but who can really tell.

Well done again

End of March is a good time! See you on the plane ;-))

Not selling is pretty gutting isn't it, hadn't planned on keeping a property here. This week's financial ups and downs have been shocking - funny how we're trying to emigrate in the midst of biggest economic crisis of our lifetime -you have to laugh!! Our friends who went before us had it so easy!!

Hi Amanda, Yes I am going back then, on the 23rd. At least we know what to expect re: the security checks. Neil can't make it so I'll be there on my tod freaking out with excitement and nervousness! If you see me say hi! I am going to try and get there for 1.30pm/1.40ish. I just can't imagine how I'll feel when I walk out of there with the visas in my hand :-)

Are you going to be there on the 23rd too?
Which part of Canada are you going to?

Hubby Craig will be there (I'm actually in Canada - we're in Ontario, about 2.5 hrs from Toronto) - I'll tell him to say Hi, but I'm sure he'll be too nervous and focussed on not screwing anything up!!!!!!! Won't it be wierd to finally have that 'Golden Ticket'!!?
If you want to drop me an email, my address is [email protected].
Cheers!

Hi there.
Thanks very much. I think it will sink in over the next few days, right now I am still shaking which I hadn't expected, it knocked me for six. Went to the pub with a couple of people I met in the queue which was lovely. Lots of celebrating to do over the weekend. You will soon be there too.
