Hi re2dy,
Medicals arrived by post, it took them one week to arrive in Canada from London. There were 60 days given on meds.

could you share what is that Initial Assessment, is that a Letter you receive ? or through post ?

Can you share what that says to have a look.

Every one will receive initial assessment or how is it ?

Initial assessment in my table is an e-mail from CIO Sydney that says that my application is complete and will be forwarded to the visa office.
Yes, everybody receives initial assessment. It contains the Unique client number that you should use to check your status online on the CIC website.
After this, a visa office usually issues its own Acceptance of receipt of your application, but my office (London, UK) does not issue such letters. The first time I heard from them was when they sent me medicals by post.

p.s. Initial assessment refers to the federal stage in my table, not Quebec part.

Hi katayoon,

i recive my CSQ in november 2011. in the online status it shows that "my application ( the fedral part) is recived in 28 december 2011. in ferbruary 2012 i recive email from nova scotia that my application is intially reviewed and forward to the visa office in london. till now i didnt recive anything from them and there is no update to my status ; still application recived . when should i expect to recive the medical, and is the status will change before sending the medical

thank you

Hi NightStar,

Before you receive medicals, your status will turn "in process" and you should see a new line "we started processing your application on XX/XX". In exceptional cases, your status will not change as ECAS gets updated with delays.
I received medical request 2 months after my status became "in process". Some people receive medicals 4 weeks after becoming 'in process' and some received it after 1 year or later. Each case takes different time to complete all background and security checks. The process is totally unpredictable.

Thanks Katayoon;

in thier website london visa office, states that it will take 6 months to process the QSW applications and in the CIC website states that the fedral part will take 10months almost i applied for more than 8 months for the fedral part

Hi NightStar,

If you notice the date that page was updated (london visa office) is 2011. 6 months is old data and things are slowing down over time. Besides, what 10 months means is that 80% of cases are processed in 10 months, but there are still 20% left and we can become one of these and wait for over 10 months. But the good thing is that we are already selected by the government of quebec and federal authority cannot reject candidates with clear criminal and medical records. Don't worry! We'll get there in due time.

Hi Katayoon, my ECAS status shows Application Received and the details are when you click the link under application received.
We received your application for permanent residence on May 4, 2012.

Medical results have been received.

Hello us2ca,
you recived your medicals and you did it already and your ECAS staus still shows application recived "we recived your application for permananet residence"?
Posted by us2ca
08 Aug 2012 #14
Hi Nightstar,

That's correct.
Posted by NightStar
08 Aug 2012 #15
Thanks us2ca, as per Katayoon, two months after your status is change to " in process" I will recive my medicals. So that's mean there is no update to the online service.
Whats your visa office? you are lucky that things going smooth with you. My visa office is London, My Staus is Application Recived " we recived your application for perminant resident on december 2011" but till now i didnt heared anything

08 Aug 2012 #16
Hi Nightstar,

ECAS is not updated regularly. Maybe they are already processing your application but it does not show up as "in process". However, if you see "in process" and the new line "we started processing your application", this is an indication that they opened your file and soon will send medicals, depending on how long your background/criminality checks take.

08 Aug 2012 #17
Thanks us2ca for highlighting the delays with ECAS. This is a good lesson not to rely on ECAS too much
Posted by us2ca
08 Aug 2012 #18
Just to let you know. I received medical request along with file number from ottawa. did medical same day. medical received by cic a week after. Basically I received my medical, That CIC received and shows on ECAS. Original status is application received. there may be different status for applicants applying from north america, no via office involved. application processed from pilot office Ottawa.

08 Aug 2012 #19
Thanks us2ca! For us at London office, "in process" also means that the file has safely been transported from Sydney to London and opened. So I would suggest to NightStar to send them a case specific enquiry in September (since we have right to conact the visa office when 10 months will already have elapsed).
Posted by us2ca
08 Aug 2012 #20
So that you know in my AOR, CIC has suggested to reach out to case processing office, if not heard in 120 days ( 4 month).
Posted by NightStar
08 Aug 2012 #21
Thank you Katyoon and us2ca for the explanations

actually in february 2012 i recived email from the central intake office in nova scotia stating my Fedral File Number and that my file will forward to london visa office, and the status shows that my file is recived. Three months latter they put in my ECAS the mailing adress that i will recive all the corspondance on it but no change for the status.

Katayoon what do you mean by "depending on how long your background/criminality checks take." and is it for sure that in process mean that the file is transfered from Nova scotia to London?
Posted by Katayoon
08 Aug 2012 #22
Hi NightStar,

Each case takes different time to finish criminality/background checks. E.g. if you have several police certificates this delays process.
Yes, it is for sure that "in process" means file transfer. If you click in your ECAS on the bar explaining different statuses, it will show you that the status "in process" comes next after "received by visa office". But London, for some reason, skips this status and immediately goes to "in process", which implies that your file has been received at London. What you see "we received your application for PR on" is the confirmation that the CIO in Sydney received your file and not your visa office. This is why I suggest that you e-mail them next month.

NightStar, I do not think that ECAS is consistent for everybody, but my medical request came 2 weeks after my address was added to the ECAS. Hope this makes you feel better :D

Hi Mouradb,
Last week my ecas changed to " medical results received". Since then no news. My medical request says " give us 2-3 months to assess medical results". So I am hoping to hear news in october. I will update my case if I get news. Thanks.

HI katayoon,

Its really strange , but have you seen the previous mail with passport request ?? one more thing did u stayed more than one country and had travelled many other countries on vacation or job purpose ???

thanks
Posted by Katayoon
11 Aug 2012 #27
Hi montrealgun,
Yes, I lived in three countries and travelled to 30 countries. So I was expecting longer background checks, What is strange is that they issued PPR before finishing all checks. But still I am going on schedule. The total processing time for London is 10 months and they only spent 3 months so far on processing my file.
Have not seen the mailed passport request yet. Stuck in mail!

For the info of other participants of this discussion:
They mailed me passport request 30/07 but on 08/08 cancelled it by email claiming they need additional background checks!

hi Katayoon
If you are an european citizen , you need not to be worried about your BG check, it usually doesn't take much time becoz in all developed countries the information system is much faster than other countries in dispute , one more thing have you mentioned all your travels in your additional travel information form??
Posted by Katayoon
11 Aug 2012 #30
Hi montrealgun,
Thanks for your encouragement.
No I am not EU citizen and the countries of which I am citizen have minimal internet coverage, this is why I do not expect any decision until next year. It is not that I am worried, but I am irritated by the fact that nobody knows when exactly the countries of which I am citizen will finally bother themselves to reply to London's correspondence regarding my criminal record. I am sure that London does its best to process files asap.

@Katayoon, I think you made your case more complicated, are you sure that you are supposed to tell CIC all your travel details. CIC is interested in any country you have resided more then 6 month (180 days). All travel and visit for leisure are not supposed to be reported.
Posted by Katayoon
23 Aug 2012 #35
No, all travelling needs to be reported irrespective of purpose/length. Yes, I am sure and so is my Canadian lawyer.

your 18th birthday if this was less than ten years ago). Include all trips: tourism, business, training, etc.

Hi Montrealgun, no I have not had any correspondence from them since 08 August when they said to ignore the passport request issued on 30/07/12 and wait for a new one because they have not finished background checks. I will wait until January and then order CAIPS notes.

Does CAIPS notes really provide any update on application? Also does applying CAIPS have any impact on application processing?

Can you pls guide me how to order caips notes

thanks

16 Oct 2012 #43
Hi re2dy and montrealgun,

There are many websites where you can order caips, e.g. caipsnotes.com, caips.com etc. But you will need to release your file number to them, this is why I am not comfortable with ordering online. However, many users used these online service and are happy with it. Another option is to ask your canadian lawyer (if you have one) to request these (for a fee). This is the option I will use.

They advise that CAIPS does not delay your file, because it is a print out from the Computer dataset stored in Ottawa (not your visa office).

I saw CAIPS/GCMS notes for another applicant and it said: "Police certificates clear. Not clear why the employer needs a worker without canadian experience. To request updated police certificates and forms". So we have a chance to see what checks we have already cleared, which doc request will come next and what is doubted by the visa officer.

I have checked my status

We received your application for permanent residence on February
We started processing your application
Medical results have been received.

A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision.

what do you think , can we be sure and certain that everthing is ok , just ppr is left ?

07 Nov 2012 #54
Hi montrealgun, congrats! As I said before, your status in GCMS is approved (all checks passed) and one document is in queue for printing. This is passport request. They probably already sent it by mail or are about to send it by mail ( I got my first PPR by mail). They will ask for updated information chart and 2 fresh pictures along with passport.

08 Nov 2012 #55
Hi katayoon thanks fyi :) , how long it took to recieve ppr since the online status decision made ? and you recieved it in courier right ?
Posted by Katayoon
09 Nov 2012 #56
Hi montrealgun, my status is still in process. My second PPR was sent by e-mail, and my first one (the one that they cancelled because they needed additional background checks) by mail. My lawyer received it so I don't know whether it was courrier. But I doubt it was courrier because it was issued 30 July, but when we received email in August 08 about the cancellation of this PPR, the PPR still had not arrived. They usually use courrier in developing countries with unreliable post, my lawyer is in canada though.

Hi montrealgun, I also got passport request in July but then after 10 days they cancelled it due to additional checks required and I waited for 3 months for a new passport request. But this is very rare. In most cases passport request from London means the end of all checks.

However until now i have heard nothing about my application.. But according to the courier the documents was received by the person in their. Would you know if i still can receive feedback from them? And what letter shall i receive first? Thank you.

You should receive an email from CIO stating that your file is complete and will be forwarded to the visa office. It will contain your file number and UCI (Unique client identification) that you can use to track your status online.it took me 1 month to get this email.

@free12 You will receive PPR when they finish security and criminality checks. Allow for several months while they check that your police certificates are true.
