Didn't want to comment in the forum considering the trolling by the Russian bot. My plan B is to leave the country and return on H1B extension. Not a good one, but it works for me.

Why do you have to leave a month before expiry? Any legal reasons? I plan to leave just before max-out. A couple of days or perhaps a week ahead. That way, if you do get it in the meanwhile, you can cancel your one-way ticket.
